Laguna Seca/Mazda Raceway - Monday, March 14th, 2005
Monterey, California
Event cost :     $250 for S2KCA Members     $295 for all others (event fees include lunch and an event T-Shirt!)

This event is over half full and will sell out quickly, so register and submit payments immediately if you want to secure a spot! We’ve also priced this day at the track $60 to $100 below what other clubs have been charging at this facility! As always, drivers continue to get the most ‘bang for the buck’ with TMR!

This event is brought to you by TrackMasters Racing and S2KCA. Due to our relationship with S2KCA and many others in the region, TMR is able to  bring it’s members another rare opportunity to run this historic track during the 2005 season.

The S2000 Club of America is the non-profit social club for S2000 drivers and enthusiasts. S2KCA produces numerous regional and national members-only events, hosts a set of very popular online forums at www.s2kca.com, and offers discounts on quality products from its many website sponsors.

Laguna in 2005 - Many of you are aware that Laguna Seca will be closed for track modifications during the month of May and at least half of June. These  45+ days of downtime come directly out of the pool of days normally allocated to private clubs like ours.  That said, we are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to host 2 events at Laguna this season - March 14th and December 1st.

If you’ve attended a TrackMasters Racing event, you know that we don’t skimp on things that make a difference! You get food service throughout the day, and all participants get event T-Shirts. We’ve been putting events on since 1997 to satisify our need for speed, and to provide the same opportunity for fellow enthusiasts to do the same!

Here’s the price structure we’ve come up with for this event:

  • S2KCA Club Members - up to March 1 = $250
  • All TrackMasters Members - up to March 1 = $295
  • All Instructors - $100 (limited to 18)
  • All - Registrations between March 2 and event day = $315

    The bottom line....
Sign up early, Secure your spot, Save $$, and
PLEASE DO NOT register unless you’re committed to attend!  We’ve had a problem lately with drivers securing spots and then cancelling a week before event day.

Here's the details:

  • Full 2.20 Mile Track
  • If we hit the goal of 20 cars per run group, we’ll run 4 Run Groups (A=Advanced, B1= Intermediate, B2= Intermediate,C=Novice), 20 cars per group with 10 slots open for movement between groups.(this worked extremely well at our last Laguna event, and provided double the track time for many participants and instructors!)
  • If we don’t hit the goal of 20 cars per run group, then it will be a 3 Run Group format - Advanced, Intermediate, and Novice.
  • Again, we are allowing higher level drivers to fill empty slots in lower level run groups. (2 level jumps only) This gives some of you even more track time!
  • Unique passing rules will be assigned for each run group
  • Some dedicated/one on one instruction is planned for this event. However, classroom downloads will be conducted after each morning session.
  • 92 db sound restrictions are in place for this date (see below for more on sound)
  • Tow/safety, medical, and other track staff will be present during the event
  • Coffee, pastries, bagels, and Orange Juice provided in the morning.
  • Bottled water also provided throughout the day.
  • Buffet Lunch will be provide.
  • Camping at the Laguna Seca campgrounds is available. Camping in the paddock will not be available.
  • This is a ‘rain or shine’ event.

Heard enough? If so, sign-up now to secure your spot! The clock is ticking! Go >Here< to Register for the event.   All Payment info can be found >Here<.

Sound Controls
Laguna Seca is fairly tight with sound levels at their facility. Monterey County allocates a limited number of unlimited db days, 105db, 103db, 92db, and 90db days to the track each year. Due to the demand for the limited number of higher db days, private events are commonly issued the 90db days.

For this event, if your vehicle is measured to be consistently over 92db as you pass the sound monitoring station (between turns 5 and 6), you will be black flagged and must exit the track.  If this happens to you, you will have 2 additional attempts to correct the problem. If after 3 black flags you continue to exceed the db limit, you will be forced to exit the track and your day will be over.  If you continue to drive on the track after your 3rd black flag, you will be fined $1000 per lap!  Yes, per lap! So, make sure you can pass sound before you show up at the track, and keep your eye’s on the turn workers!

If you’re concerned about sound, here’s some tips:

  1. Measure your vehicle sound level under acceleration at another track or on a public roadway.  The sound monitoring station is approximately 60’ off the track on the passenger side of the vehicle.(Radio Shack has an accurate digital db meter for about $50)
  2. Ensure that your exhaust system is functioning properly.
  3. Upgrade your exhaust system (which usually degrades performance!) by adding a larger and/or more restrictive muffler designed for more sound reduction. (complete mufflers and/or SuperTrap baffle plates)
  4. Point your exhaust tip towards the drivers side of the car or straight down. Some drivers have special exhaust tips that they bolt on their car for this track.
  5. Alter your driving style.  A technique that is commonly used is to ‘lift’ off the throttle after you exit turn 5 and are approaching the sound station.  Once past the station, you can then get back on the throttle before you enter turn 6.  Not the fastest way around the track, but using this technique may be necessary to keep you on the track!

Refunds
Weather related cancellation and any resulting refunds are controlled by the track management. TMR will work with the track management to minimize losses, and provide appropriate credits and/or refunds to the registered participants. Typically this facility requires us to run the event ‘rain or shine’, and this is how we intend to run the event. On occasion, the track may deem the track conditions ‘un-safe’ and cancel the event. Refunds due to a participant cancellation will only be granted if we have a driver on the waitlist who can take your spot.
